Turns out I'm no wimp!!

Yep you read that right I'm not as big of a wimp as I thought I may be. I'm happy to report that after 10 days in bed, one trip to the ER, three calls to the doctors office, one trip to the doctor, nine days of not doing my children's hair ( I kid you not when I finally did Anika's hair yesterday she had the starting of dreadlocks), two different days of blood testing, a great weight loss program (I am down eight pounds) and one fainting spell I am FINALLY on the mend! Can I get a WAHOO or least a raise the roof?!?

It all started last Wednesday. I was coming down with what I thought was a little cold. The aches and pains hit me in the middle of the night and from there it all went downhill. I was not able to get out of bed until noon that day. Once again I just thought I was coming down with a little something and my body just needed rest. Fast forward three days and I was still trying to convince myself I just needed rest. I was not able to get out of bed but I was sure it was just a little something!!

Anika was once again trying to be cooler and older than she really is. She was wearing Cailyn's sweat pants that are about four sizes to big on her. Why? Well because they are waaaay cooler than her own! She was holding Jackson on her hip and walking out of the kitchen when she slipped on those totally cool pants. That's when Jason and I heard the loud bang of his head hit the wooden floor. It is amazing how your adrenaline kicks in and you suddenly forget how sick you are when your child needs you. Jackson immediately started dry heaving and going lethargic. Jason grabbed him and was going to take him to the ER but I could not just sick back no matter how sick I was. So the neighbor girl came over to watch the kids and off I went with Jason. turns out he just had a mild concussion and they just had to watch him for awhile. While the Dr. was in talking to us she noticed how sick I sounded and looked. She told me if I wanted to check myself in they would put me in the same room as Jackson. I told her I was fine and if I was still sick in the morning I would go to my doctor. Which was code for I really do not want to pay a $250 co-pay today when I can wait and pay a $20 co-pay in the morning (it was Sunday or I would of just gone to my doctor and not waited).

A mere six hours latter I was whistling a different tune. I had totally taken a turn for the worse. My chest had tightened up and I was having a hard time breathing. I was wheezing and could not get a deep breath in. My fever had spiked up. Jason called my doctor and he said not to wait until morning to see him and just go straight to the ER. When we walked in at 10:00 p.m. I was not excited to see a full waiting room. I was sick and had no desire to sit in waiting room for hours while I waited to see a doctor. Ten minutes after signing in though I started to feel really weird. I told Jason something was wrong and I needed help. That is when everything started to go black. I remember the lady across from me asking if she needed us to go get help and that's it. Everything else is gone. I woke up being put in a wheel chair and being zipped back. oh yeah, check out that rock star move to the front of the line! I was not getting enough oxygen and passed out. It was a really weird sensation when I came to. I had all these people surrounding me asking me questions. I could see them all and hear them I just could not answer them. I finally started coming around a little more though and was put in a room. They started running all kinds of test on me. I'm sure I was a sight. I was hooked up to an I.V. and oxygen and looked like death had come. The best part was when I had to give them a urine sample. I went to the bathroom and realized my lady friend had come for her monthly visit. Seriously, like I wasn't dealing with enough?!?!

I was finally diagnosed with bronchitis, an urinary tract infection and hypokalemia ( which is a fancy name for low potassium). I was put on some meds and told I'd get better. Two days later though I was not getting better. Jason took me into my Doctor and we found out I actually had pneumonia NOT bronchitis. I am telling you I have NEVER EVER been so sick. I could not walk or lift anything. Jason had to hold my cup or prop it next to me with the straw hanging down by my mouth. I was like this until Thursday evening when I finally started feeling a tiny bit better.

It is amazing all that I learned from this experience. It is obvious that I learned how lucky I am to have good health. There is so much more though that I take for granted on a daily basis. How about being able to hold my baby. I could not hold him no matter how bad I wanted. I remember hearing him cry and wanting to pick him up and love him but not being able to move. I remember Taylor coming home form school and wanting to ask her how her day was but I did not have the strength to move my lips. I will forever remember two days ago when I finally had the strength to sit at the dinner table with my family. Tears started rolling down my checks when Jason was praying because I was so grateful that I could sit with them. How silly is that. I never would of given a thought before at how lucky I was to have dinner with my family every night.

I am so lucky to have my family. They have been so good to me. Jim came down and made us dinner. Sherryl came and helped out with the kids. Kelly brought us down dinner and helped out around the house. I totally want to thank Taylor for being the ever doting nurse. Anika for taking advantage of a very sick mom and busy dad, I loved Jackson's blue fingernail polish and toenail polish, it put a smile on my face! Lexi for playing so good with her brothers. Jackson for the many renditions of twinkle twinkle little star. Cater for still lighting up when I looked at him even though I could not hold him. But most of all I want to thank my Husband!! You put everything on hold to play Mr.mom and take care of me. As miserable as I was you helped make me feel just a tiny bit better. You did a much better job than you give yourself credit for. The kids loved you telling them stories of your past at dinner time. It was fun watching you try to teach them sign language. I was amazed at how at the end of an exhausting day you still gathered them for scriptures. THANK YOU!

So while I may not be totally free of sickness (I am at least sitting up now) here is to health and getting better so I can enjoy all the little things in life that I love and hold dear!!

You know your sick when....

11. What starts as tearing up soon turns to crying...and then on to sobs...all because you can't find the thermometer.

10. You finally get caught up on all your recorded shows. OK maybe not caught up but at least your out of January.

9. You can not even enjoy a day, or four, of staying in bed all day reading, watching t.v. and having a bubble bath. I know, I know what's wrong with me? I dream of these days!

8. You cancel the babysitter and a night out with just your husband. Seriously, who does that?!?

7. You hit the guide button to see what's on and forget and end up watching an entire show in the little box up in the corner before you realize you have not even scrolled down once.

6. You are to sick to get out of bed to get your own water but can not yell loud enough for your husband to hear you. You end up using the house phone to call him on his cell phone even though he is just s few stairs away.

5. You take your little boy to the E.R. for a head concussion and a nurse who has not been treating him walks in and thinks you are the patient.

4. You do not notice that that sickly smell is radiating from your body.

3. Every time you cry the tears burn and feel like they are going to melt your face off as they roll down your checks. Oh the burn, make it stop!

2. You are actually admitting what a wimp you are for all to read. I'm worse than the man with the man cold. If I was even remotely in the right frame of mind I would not be admitting to any of these!

1. and the number one reason you know when your sick is when you finally have time to check in on every one's blog.

Thank you for sharing your lives with me and bringing a small smile to my face. It would be a huge smile but let's not forget I feel like POOP!
